Morning Thoughts for Every Day in the Year – December 26

The shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing. — Luke 2:15

Here we see the simple faith of these shepherds. They raised no doubt, asked no questions, expressed no feeling of uncertainty. They had the faith of little children. They did not say, “let us go and see if this thing is true;” but, “Let us go and see this thing.” We are too apt to doubt, and to ask for more proof. It is better for us to believe without questioning, and then to go at once to find and see what the Word of God promises.

The shepherds were so sure that they should find the Babe lying in a manger that they once hurried away into the town to begin their search. It would be well for us if we had faith as simple and as earnest. In the next verse we read: “They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.” In like manner whatever the divine promise may be, if we believe it and hasten to seek the promised blessing, we shall find it just as the Word of God says we shall.
