Be Fruitful

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:34-39

Everyone wants to bear a lot of fruits in their life. But how? The Bible told us Adam did not do well, he could not bear fruits. Because he did not have faith in God and did not obey God’s commandments. We know the farmer will select good seeds and sow in the ground, and work hard to wait for fruits. Adam is like a seed, the seed has a problem, so it can not bear fruits.

Jesus came as a new seed. He showed us the right way to bear fruits. Genesis 1:28 says, “God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.” How can we be fruitful? We need to love God first, know God’s love well and response to God’s love with faith and obedience. If we do not know God’s love, we will not know the right way to love God, and also can not love our neighbor well. The spiritual order can not be wrong. Just like when you button up a shirt, if you did the first button wrongly, the rest will be all wrong.

Jesus not only taught us, but also through his life showed us how he loves father God and trusts Him completely. Before the cross, he laid down his own will, becoming obedient to death. May we learn to love God with our heart and life, not just have superficial faith.
