Going to Heaven I

I heard a story of an old man who accepted Jesus when he was old. He loved reading the Bible with his reading glasses on. To everyone’s amazement, he always read only Matthew 1, which contains the laundry list of unpronounceable names until the birth of Jesus.

A curious grandson asked, “Grandpa, you are so unique. Why do you read that chapter only?” The old man replied, “I will soon go to heaven and see all these great people there. I should at least know their names so I could greet them!”

This old man was sure ready to move on to heaven.

No one lives forever. We all die. When we die, we do not just return to dust. Because we are not of the flesh only but of spirit too.

“The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7, NIV)

God did an amazing thing to the lump of dust. “Whooooooo…” God breathed the breath of life into the dust. Finally, the man became a LIVING BEING. This is how we were made -not only of dust but of spirit too.

When we go to a funeral, we realize that humans are just as insignificant as the dust on the ground. But God gave us something very special and precious – spirit, and our spirit will greet Him in His Eternal Home.

Dear friends, let us heed the wisdom in Ecclesiastes. “And the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:7, NIV)
