The Blessing of Inner Beauty

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 PETER 3:3-4

In our world today, people often dictate the standard of beauty. Sadly, you are not so worthy of praise for them if you do not pass up on theirs. You are not noticed or barely seen. So when the judgments of others cloud your definition of beauty, you can’t help but be like the rest of the world.

You spend money on things that will improve your physical appearance. This can be in the form of makeup, pieces of jewelry, clothes, hairstyle, and more. Sooner or later, all these will fade or go out of style, making you invest in more and more of them. You put so much effort into being attractive, not realizing that these worldly things will not make you more attractive in the eyes of God.

It says in the Scripture that what’s inside you is far more important than your physical appearance. You will be old and gray someday, but your inner beauty will never fade over time. God honors a gentle and quiet spirit. Someone who walks in respect and reverence towards Him. Someone who dedicates her time in service to the Lord and for His people.

Now, this does not mean that you will not take care of yourself or make an effort to look your best. But this just means that you should not be overly concerned about your appearance, for God is more pleased when you have a humble and genuine heart that knows nothing but to honor Him in all ways.

Today, strive to develop an inner spirit of godliness. Go and volunteer in your church. Be more intentional in sharing the Gospel with others. Make peace with all your loved ones. Invite your friends to church. Be more than just a good bible study woman who is always perfect attendance in church and discipleship groups.

May you be reminded today that the greatest validation you can ever get is a praise from God, and that’s more than enough. Find and strive for that. So beloved daughter of God, keep going. Keep obeying and trusting Him with all your heart, and you will be praised not only by Him but by everyone who sees His beauty radiating within you.

(and this goes not just to all the women, but also to all the men of God!)
